Electroconductive and catalytic performance of polypyrrole/montmorillonite/silver composites synthesized through in situ oxidative polymerization

Abstract: The present study demonstrates a simple approach to the formation of polypyrrole/montmorillonite/silver (PPy/Mt/Ag) composites via in situ oxidative polymerization of pyrrole (Py) in the presence of AgNO3 acting as a direct oxidant. The polymerization was performed in the presence of dodecylbenzenesulfonic acid, which acts as a stabilizing and doping agent. The morphological, structural, and thermal properties of PPy/Mt/Ag composites are discussed in detail and a possible formation mechanism is proposed. The e… Show more

“…These spectra are in accordance with those reported for PLCL and PLGA. , The substantial changes in the Raman spectrum were observed when the scaffolds were deposited by PPy. The PLCL-3D/E/PPy and PLGA-3D/E/PPy scaffolds show the broad peaks of N–H stretching (3500–2400 cm –1 ), CC stretching (1581 and 1569 cm –1 ), C–N stretching (1343 and 1332 cm –1 ), C–H ring stretching (1247 and 1233 cm –1 ), and C–H in-plan deformation (1040–902 and 1144–1019 cm –1 ), which correspond to the characteristic peaks of PPy. …”

“…All the scaffolds were fixed with 2.5% glutaraldehyde solution, washed with PBS, and stored overnight. Dehydration was performed by sequential immersion in ethanol solutions of varying concentrations (20,30,40,50,60,70, and 100% v/v) for 15 min at each concentration before dehydration by an automated critical point dryer. Finally, the scaffolds were coated with gold for SEM analysis.…”

“…This last class has attracted the attention of a wide academic and technological field since they combine electrical properties, similar to metals, and mechanical properties and processability inherent to conventional polymers (Mattoso, 1996;Job et al, 2003;Swart et al, 2017;Sethi et al, 2018;Rosa et al, 2019). The addition of ICP in elastomers can combine the electrical and mechanical properties of these two classes of polymer in one (Hussain et al, 2001;Soto-Oviedo et al, 2006;Tran et al, 2018), allowing its application on technological fields such as pressure sensors, electric wires and cables coating, electrical contacts, carpet with antistatic properties, and others (Mravčáková et al, 2006;Bing et al, 2010). The electrical conductivity of conductive rubber depends on factors such as the nature of the elastomeric matrix and the type, size, structure, surface, and dispersion of the conductive particles as well as the test conditions, such as temperature and pressure (Ali and Abo-Hashem, 1997;Sombatsompop et al, 2000;Job et al, 2003;Bing et al, 2010).…”
