Electrochromic Thin Film Fabricated Using a Water-Dispersible Ink of Prussian Blue Nanoparticles

Abstract: We dispersed nanoparticles of Prussian blue (PB) in water using surface modification of the PB nanoparticles. Using spincoating method, a thin film is easily fabricated with water dispersible ink of PB nanoparticles. The PB film thickness was estimated as 40 -430 nm. The PB nanoparticle film on an indium tin oxide glass substrate showed a stable electrochromic response: the color changed repeatedly between blue and colorless without any post-treatment.

“…After stirring mixture of them with an equal molar ratio for 1 h, the precipitates should be centrifuged and washed with DI water. In addition, a filter process is essential to prevent PB and Ni-PBA NPs aggregating in water [30].…”

“…By contrast, PB and Ni-PBA NPs would tend to aggregate and could not disperse well in water. Thus, a particle modification process [33,40] was used to improve the dispersion of PB and Ni-PBA NPs in water.…”

“…The detailed formation mechanism, corresponding reactions and chemical composition of electrodeposited PB films have been well summarized in previous reports [ 68 , 69 ]. Recently, water-soluble and organic-solvent-soluble PB nanoparticles inks have been successfully prepared by surface modification [ 70 , 71 , 72 , 73 ]. The strategies for the process are schematically shown in Figure 27 .…”
