Electrochemical Synthesis and Characterization of Tin(IV) Complexes of Dianionic Terdentate Schiff Base Ligands

Abstract: Tin(IV) 6 )] have been synthesized. The compounds were obtained by the electrochemical oxidation of a tin anode in a cell containing an acetonitrile solution of the corresponding ligand. The complex [SnL 1 2 ] was also obtained by reaction of SnCl 2 ·2H 2 O and H 2 L 1 in methanol in the presence 2107 of triethylamine. The crystal structure of the ligand [H 2 L 6 ] and the complexes [SnL 1 2 ] (1), [SnL 2 2 ] (2), [SnL 3 2 ](3) and [SnL 6 2 ] (6) were determined by X-ray diffraction. In the complexes, the tin … Show more

“…In the IR spectrum of H 2 L exhibited a broad band characteristic of the OH group at 3300-3500 cm −1 . The disappearance of this band in the IR spectra of complexes is indicative of the fact that the Schiff base ligand is coordinated [26]. The IR spectra of these ligands further showed a strong band at 1627 cm −1 attributable to υ(C = N).…”

“…Using CDCl 3 as the solvent, 1 H-NMR measurements were performed on NMR BRUKER 400 MHZ spectrometer, at 25 °C. The Schiff base ligand was prepared according to the literature [26]. Also, magnetic measurements were carried out with a vibrating sampling magnetometer (VSM, Model 7400-LakeShore).…”

“…This method has been successfully used for the synthesis of metal compounds with other ligands that contain weak acid groups, such as thiol, [7][8][9][10] NH [11][12][13] or hydroxy groups. [14][15][16][17] Results and Discussion…”

“…Aromatic Schiff bases containing a hydroxyl group in the ortho position may have two tautomeric forms, namely phenol-imine (O-HÁÁÁN) and keto-amine (OÁÁÁH-N) structures [17]. Various studies were carried out with these systems in order to establish the existence of intramolecular hydrogen bonding, stabilizing one of the tautomeric forms [18][19][20].…”
