Electrochemical Studies of Hydrogen in FLiBe Salt

Abstract

This paper provides an overview of the study of hydrogen chemistry and transport in molten LiF-BeF 2 (FLiBe) at University of Wisconsin -Madison. Hydrogen was introduced in the salt in the form of LiH solid powders. Preliminary data shows an oxidation peak after LiH addition, attributed to the oxidation of H 2 into HF. The hydrogen oxidation reaction is studied by cyclic voltammetry (CV), linear sweep voltammetry (LSV) and chronoamperometry (CA) and approximate H 2 diffusion coefficients in FLiBe solution are calculated with LSV ( 2.3 × 10 cm /s) and CA (1.6 × 10 cm /s).
