Electrochemical paper-based biosensors for point-of-care diagnostics: Detection methods and applications

Abstract: Personalized health care (PHC) includes personalized, preventive, predictive and participatory approaches that are significant in new diagnostics. This personal health care requires fast, accurate and minimally invasive diagnostic tools that make it possible to evaluate and monitor the process of disease by diagnosing specific disease biomarkers. Point-of-care testing (POCT) involves a wide range of diagnostic tools that meet this purpose. Electrochemical paper-based devices (ePADs) have been introduced as sim… Show more

“…In addition, the sensitivity of these methods is not su cient for detection of small surfaces of exosomal proteins. Point of care testing (POCT) is a novel technology for the immediate analysis of clinical samples at the sampling situation without complex processing, which can possess a high potential for diagnosis and monitoring of cancer [9,10]. Based on the advantages of POCT technology, some methods have been expanded to determine exosomes, which have high feasibility but low sensitivity or require specialized equipment [11][12][13].…”

“…Monitoring the corrosion status of reinforcement in concrete has been a topical research in civil engineering. The current detection methods are still based on indirect measurements [4], such as chloride content, concrete resistivity, and half-cell potential, which are used to indirectly determine the corrosion status of the reinforcement by measuring the corrosion environment parameters of the reinforcement inside the concrete [5].…”

“…The cellulose fiber paper (CFP) is strong, has a very good bonding ability, and its application has specific demands. Due to its good absorption capacity, particles can be retained on the surface for a longer time, and as a substrate, it exhibits strong antigen-antibody interaction [4,5]. This CFP substrate is used in the development of various sensors and other research applications at the nanoscale, such as membrane affinity, tissue engineering, and assay development, because it has a large surface area, one-dimensional configuration, and good coordination with surface molecules [6][7][8].…”
