Electrochemical Investigation of Erosion-corrosion Behavior of 6061 Aluminum Alloy in Marine Environment

Abstract: The liquid-solid erosion-corrosion behavior of aluminum in artificial seawater medium at open circuit has been investigated using a submerged jet impingement rig. The aluminum alloy 6061 coupons subjected to erosion corrosion condition were placed normal to the impinging jet. The gap maintained between the nozzle and the specimen was 5mm. In the present study, sea sand was used as an erodent. Erosion corrosion rate was measured using potentiodynamic polarization and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy metho… Show more

“…Oxygen availability (increased mass transfer of the cathodic reactant) increases with the flow rate enhancing the corrosion rate. Under dynamic situations, the corrosion products will be quickly scraped away from the surface by the flowing fluid accelerating the anodic reaction, thereby promoting the dissolution of the metal substrate [71] …”

“…Except for Glucose amine sulfate, Commiphora Mukul and starch showed a decrease in the inhibition efficiency with an increase in flowrate. Glucose amine sulfate increased the inhibition efficiency with flow rate [71 113] . Numerous organic compounds have also been successfully studied as extensive inhibitors for metal corrosion in sodium chloride.…”
