Electrochemical fabrication of ordered Bi2S3nanowire arrays

Abstract: We have successfully fabricated ordered, well-crystallized Bi2S3 nanowire arrays embedded in the nanochannels of porous anodic aluminium oxide templates by direct current electrodeposition from a dimethylsulfoxide solution containing BiCl3 and elemental sulfur. X-ray diffraction and selected area electron diffraction investigations demonstrate that the Bi2S3 nanowires have an orthorhombic uniform structure. Electromicroscopy results show that the nanowires are quite ordered with diameters of about 40 nm and le… Show more

“…[12] Bi 2 S 3 nanowire arrays have also been fabricated by electrodepositing in porous anodic aluminum oxide templates. [13] Herein, we report a solvothermal process using a mixture of an aqueous NaOH solution and glycerol as the solvents for synthesizing ultralong Bi 2 S 3 nanoribbons with lengths of up to a few millimeters. Surprisingly, it was found that the initially formed NaBiS 2 phase was the real precursor to Bi 2 S 3 .…”

“…1D nanostructures of single-crystalline Bi 2 S 3 have been prepared by various approaches, such as, a solvothermal (including hydrothermal) process, [6] template-directed procedure, [7] and a high-temperature evaporation method. [8] However, the quality of the as-synthesized 1D nanostructures of Bi 2 S 3 from the previously reported solvothermal process in a single solvent (including water) was still unsatisfactory, because they were usually characteristic of nanorods with very small lengths (less than 5 mm) and low aspect ratios.…”

“…To demonstrate the optical properties of the synthesized product for potential applications in blue lasers and light-emitting diodes, we measured the UV-visible (vis) absorption spectra of this ZnS architecture and an example is shown in Figure 3a. It is known that the relationship between absorption coefficient (a) near the absorption edge and optical bandgap (E g ) for direct interband transitions obeys the following relation: [31] …”
