Electrochemical Characterization of Iodide Ions Adsorption Kinetics at Bi(111) Electrode from Three-Component Ionic Liquids Mixtures

Abstract: The electrochemical behavior of RTIL mixtures containing 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium tetrafluoroborate, 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium trifluoromethanesulfonate and 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium iodide were characterized by using cyclic voltammetry and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy methods. The capacitance values of the system at potentials more positive than −0.6 V (vs. Ag|AgCl| mixture of RTIL) strongly depend on the chemical nature of the anions in the mixture. Also the strong adsorption of I − at Bi (1… Show more

“…7 the optimal Br − % is from 1 to 2% for EMImBr + EMImBF 4 systems, differently from I − system, where the blocking adsorption has been observed already for 2% EMImI system. 11,12 The C p value for 1% EMImI containing mixture is higher than that for 1% EMImBr containing mixture, indicating to the more active adsorption of I − than Br − ions at Bi(111). Likewise C p /C s vs. log f plots (Figs.…”

“…Formulating RTIL mixed electrolytes was recently proposed as an effective and convenient strategy to increase the capacitive performance of electrochemical capacitors [82]. However, little is known about how the properties of EDLCs containing RTIL mixtures would be affected by the electrolyte composition [83][84][85][86]. Here, we investigate the EDL structure and the capacitance of two RTILs, 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)imide (EMI-TFSI and 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium tetrafluoroborate (EMI-BF 4 , and their mixtures with onion-like carbon electrodes using experiment and the CDFT.…”
