Electrochemical behaviour and voltammetric determination of rosuvastatin calcium in pharmaceutical preparations using a square-wave voltammetric method

Abstract: In this study, the electrochemical behaviour of rosuvastatin calcium, which is a hydroxy methyl glutaryl Co-A inhibitor (a member of the statin group), used for the treatment of hypercholesterolemia and dyslipidemia was investigated using cyclic voltammetry (CV) and chronoamperometry (CA) methods. According to these studies it is assumed that the reaction is a diffusion-controlled process and irreversible. The results from the CA were calculated using Cottrell's equation and the diffusion coefficient was found… Show more

“…Other techniques for ROS quantification were also applied, including capillary zone electrophoresis, mercury drop electrode, highly sensitive enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), high-performance thin-layer chromatography (HPTLC), and TLC, as demonstrated in Table 5. [54,[130][131][132][133][134][135][136][137][138] A microwell-based automated spectrophotometric method for determination of drugs using a colored charge-transfer (CT) complex has been developed as an alternative for the conventional spectrophotometric technique. [137][138][139][140] This non-conventional spectrophotometric assay demonstrated advantages, such as automation, lower consumption of organic solvents, and relative sensitivity with the limit of quantification of 7.85 mg/well for the quantification of ROS.…”

“…The reduction peak at −1.31 V vs. Ag/AgCl for PST was an irreversible one, as on reversing the potential no anodic peak corresponding to the reduction process was observed even at positive potential. The irreversible nature of the electrode process was further established by increasing scan rates which resulted in shift of peak potential to negative values with increased peak currents [34] .

“…The regression data of calibration plot obtained by the developed electrochemical method for the determination of PST are presented in Table 2 . The limit of detection (LOD) and limit of quantification (LOQ) were calculated using the equations [34] , where s is standard deviation and m is slope of the calibration plot. The calculated LOD was found to be 9.66±0.04 nM and LOQ was amounted to be 32.25±0.07 nM.…”

“…Similar procedure was applied for the pharmaceutical samples also. 2 mg of sample was taken in 98 mg KBr electrophoresis [56] , Voltammetry: hanging mercury drop electrode [57] , Charge-transfer complex [58] . No doubt these methods are able to deliver desired analytical accuracy but came with added disadvantages too.…”
