Abstract.This research studied the inhibition of corrosion by bawang dayak leaves extract (EleutherineamericanaMerr.) on API 5L steel in brine water environment (3.5% NaCl). The inhibitor was extracted using maceration process from bawang dayak leaves that was cultivated in Paser District, East Kalimantan. The test of antioxidant activity showed that bawang dayak leaves extract is a very powerful antioxidant with IC 50 value of 27.30204. The results from FTIR test show the presence of electronegative atoms and double bonds of the alkenes groups that provide the potential of the extract as a corrosion inhibitor. Efficiency of inhibition reached up to 93.158% for the addition of inhibitor with 300 ppm concentration and 20 days of immersion time. This inhibitory behavior is also supported by polarization measurements where the lowest corrosion rate of 0.00128 mm/year is obtained at the same concentration and immersion time.

Tannin isolated from Psidiumguajava leaves are developed to enhance the corrosion protection of austenitic stainless steel. It is used as a green inhibitor, extracted from Psidium guajava which grow in East java, Indonesia. In the present work, the corrosion inhibition properties of the tannin inhibitors were investigated in 3M HCl by polarization potentiodynamic measurements. The result reveals that tannin 1g/L could enhance the inhibition efficiency up to 91.81%.

AbstrakSalah satu alternatif inhibitor organik yang dapat digunakan adalah inhibitor dari ekstrak daun bawang tiwai. Penelitian ini menggunakan media 3,5% NaCl dengan konsentrasi inhibitor ekstrak daun bawang tiwai sebesar 0 ppm hingga 500 ppm dengan lama perendaman 10 hari, 20 hari, dan 30 hari. Efisiensi inhibisi diukur menggunakan uji korosi weight loss, sedangkan laju korosi diperoleh dari pengukuran polarisasi. Hasil pengujian FTIR menunjukkan ekstrak mengandung senyawa flavonoid yang bertindak sebagai antioksidan dan menghambat korosi. Efisiensi inhibisi mencapai 95,4545% untuk penambahan inhibitor dengan konsentrasi 300 ppm dan lama perendaman 20 hari. Perilaku penghambatan ini juga didukung oleh hasil pengukuran polarisasi dimana laju korosi terendah sebesar 0,00128 mm/year didapatkan pada konsentrasi dan lama perendaman yang sama.
