Electroceutical Fabric Lowers Zeta Potential and Eradicates Coronavirus Infectivity upon Contact

Abstract: Coronavirus with intact infectivity attached to PPE surfaces pose significant threat to the spread of COVID-19. We tested the hypothesis that an electroceutical fabric, generating weak potential difference of 0.5V, disrupts the infectivity of coronavirus upon contact by destabilizing the electrokinetic properties of the virion. Respiratory coronavirus particles (105) were placed in direct contact with the fabric for 1 or 5 minutes. Viral particles (2.5-4x104) were … Show more

“…Our results demonstrate that LF-ThMS locally applied to the dorsal thorax of COVID-19 patients is safe and valuable to significantly increase SpO2 levels during a single LF-ThMS intervention of 30 minutes. This is in line with models predicting the electrical [16] or thermal inactivation of SARS-CoV-2 [17] in the environment or with the hypothesis that hydro-thermotherapy or photobiomodulation could help in the treatment of COVID-19 patients [18,19].…”

“…In a recent study, it was revealed that the hydrophobic phenylalanine residue of the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein was responsible for the strong bonding with the angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) receptor for the entry to the host cells [34]. Recently, it was studied that the surface charge of the SARS-CoV-2 was lowered in the presence of the electroceutical polyester fabric consists of silver and zinc dots [35]. This altered the stability of virus particles and damaged the structural integrity of the virus.…”

“…An electroceutical fabric dressing designed for chronic wounds was adapted as a face mask effective at eliminating COVID-19. 5 The widespread use of telemedicine from COVID-19 will expand the reach of plastic surgical evaluation to smaller communities. Plastic surgery procedures that may have resulted in a short admission may become outpatient on a more universal level as a result of attempts to limit hospitalizations during COVID-19.…”
