Electrocatalytic Oxidation of Fe/EDTA Complexes at Lead Dioxide Electrodes

Abstract

The electrolytic oxidation of EDTA (ethylene diamine tetra acetic acid) and the EDTA complexes of Fe 2+,3 § was investigated at Pt and pure PbO2-film electrodes and As/PbO2 and Bi/PbO2 mixed oxide-film electrodes deposited on the Pt substrate. The reactivity of the mixed oxide electrodes was significantly greater than for the Pt and PbO2 electrodes. The application of this phenomena is suggested for reduction of the mass of radioactive wastes generated by the cleaning of steam generators in nuclear power plants.Numerous studies have been reported on electrocatalytic phenomena at conductive metal-oxide electrodes (1-5).
