Electrocatalytic activity of Ce-PbO2/C anode for acid red B reduction in aqueous solution

Abstract: Graphite-lead dioxide electrodes doped with rare earth Cerium (Ce-PbO 2 /C electrodes) were prepared by electrodeposition. The scanning electron microscope results showed that the microstructure and crystal orientation of electrode surface were changed by Cerium doping. CeO 2 was detected from modified electrodes by X-ray diffraction analysis. The cyclic voltammetry spectra indicated that the oxidation peak potential of cerium-doped electrode was smaller than pure PbO 2 electrode. Effects of the novel electrod… Show more

“…8,9 Another way is to create a composite material that by its properties would not be inferior to the base oxide, but would have lower internal stresses. 10,11 It is well recognized, [12][13][14] that the presence of various ionic dopants and oxides of other metals in deposition electrolytes has a significant effect on the composition, physico-chemical properties and electrocatalytic activity of the resulting materials based on lead dioxide. At the same time, unlike metal coatings, the effect of organic additives on the regularities of PbO 2 electrodeposition and the properties of the resulting materials remains practically unexplored.…”

“…When active anodes such as Pt, IrO 2 , and RuO 2 are used, M( • OH) is converted into a less oxidizing species such as chemisorbed MO that oxidizes organics mainly to carboxylic acids [1], whereas the alternative use of a high oxidation power materials [17][18][19][20][21] like SnO 2 , PbO 2 , and BDD favors the electrochemical incineration of organics at the anode vicinity by the great production of hydroxyl radicals (e.g., BDD( • OH)) [5].…”
