Electrocardiographic imaging for cardiac arrhythmias and resynchronization therapy

Abstract: Use of the 12-lead electrocardiogram (ECG) is fundamental for the assessment of heart disease, including arrhythmias, but cannot always reveal the underlying mechanism or the location of the arrhythmia origin. Electrocardiographic imaging (ECGi) is a non-invasive multi-lead ECG-type imaging tool that enhances conventional 12-lead ECG. Although it is an established technology, its continuous development has been shown to assist in arrhythmic activation mapping and provide insights into the mechanism of cardiac … Show more

“…It is the easiest tool to detect left bundle branch block (LBBB) and select patients for CRT. The expansion up to 300 electrodes allows a 3D visualization of onset of activation and propagation captured from the body surface [ 22 ]. A correlation of low voltage and scar has been shown [ 23 , 24 ].…”

“…However, validating ECGI continues to be a challenge [ 82 ]. Several limitations of ECGI are complicating the validation and the incorporation into the clinical practice [ 83 ]. For example, implementation choices and the type of application for which ECGI is used can largely influence ECGI and complicate the validation [ 82 ].…”

“…For example, implementation choices and the type of application for which ECGI is used can largely influence ECGI and complicate the validation [ 82 ]. Moreover, performing ECGI can be difficult and requires adequate training of personnel, for both the measurements and interpretations of ECGI [ 83 ]. Keeping these shortcomings in mind, we will address the possible applications for ECGI, and discuss the first results of ECGI in IVF patients.…”

“…Cardiovascular diseases are one of the main causes of mortality across the world, which impose a heavy burden on society [ 1 , 2 , 3 ]. Cardiac arrhythmia, which is known as an abnormal heart rhythm, is considered as a very important category of cardiovascular disorders [ 4 ].…”
