Electroanalytical Studies on the Interaction Of l-Serine-Based Schiff Base, HHDMP, with Copper in Sulphuric Acid

Abstract: Amino acids and its Schiff bases have been widely recognized as green corrosion inhibitors primarily due to its non-toxic nature and biodegradable properties. Considering its unique nature and significant contribution in corrosion chemistry, studies were undertaken with an objective to find out the inhibitory effect of L-serine based Schiff base HHDMP on copper in 0.5, 1.0 and 1.5 M of sulphuric acid at 303, 308 and 313 K. Various techniques such as weight loss method, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, p… Show more

“…Plant inhibitors can be classified as an anodic or a cathodic type if the variation in the E corr values is more than 85 mV. 29,30 In the present case, the maximum shift in E corr were 22 mV (for EEMAS extract) and 78 mV (WEMAS extract), which implies that the inhibitors work through a mixed mode of inhibition by retarding both anodic dissolution and cathodic evolution reactions at active aluminium metal sites. In addition, increasing plant extract concentration in the examined solution did not notably modify either the anodic or cathodic Tafel slope values in any particular direction, indicating that the presence of inhibitors in test solution does not alter the corrosion process mechanism, but acts as an adsorption inhibitor which reduces the excessive metal dissolution in corrosive system.…”
