Electro-optically Q-switched Pr:YAP laser generating at 747 nm

Abstract: Electro-optically Q-switched flash-lamp pumped Pr:YAP laser was demonstrated. Employing LiNbO3 Pockels cell in quarter-wave configuration giant pulses with an energy and length of 5 mJ and 50 ns, respectively, were obtained at 747 nm wavelength. Laser oscillator was operating at room temperature and with 0.5 Hz repetition rate. Considering that the Pr:YAP output radiation is naturally polarized, the necessity of polarizer presence inside resonator was also investigated. Energy level diagram of Pr3+ ions in YA… Show more

“…2 and [23]. The f-f emission of Pr in YAP is of interest mainly for lasing [24] or upconversion-related [25] purposes. However, it can also be of interest in the present case, since possible pairing or clustering of Pr ions in YAP host could be monitored by the Scintillation decay of the YAP:Pr samples (the set presented in Fig.…”

“…So, in the study presented, and on the basis of the formerly realized flashlamp-pumped Q-switched stablerunning Pr:YAP laser oscillator at 747 nm [11], we report the intracavity frequency doubling of the Pr:YAP active medium resulting in the blue laser emission -for the first time to our best knowledge. Using the intracavity positioned non-linear BBO crystal, stable pulses with an output peak power of about 10 kW at 373.5 nm were generated.…”

“…For the purpose of second harmonic generation, the laboratory-built flash-lamp pumped Pr:YAP laser operating in the stable Q-switched pulsed regime at 747 nm wavelength was employed [11]. Q-switching was ensured by the Pockels cell working in λ/4 configuration, situated in the laser resonator close to the rear mirror.…”

“…The Pr:YAP visible laser emission has been described under flash-lamp pumping [6,7] Figure 1 (online color at www.lphys.org) Simplified energy level diagram of Pr 3+ -ion in YAP matrix indicating pumping and laser transitions [5,6] argon-ion pumping [8], and, recently, under the GaN laser diode pumping [9]. Besides, electro-optically Q-switched Pr:YAP laser operation has been demonstrated [10].…”
