Electrical equivalent circuit for modelling permanent magnet synchronous motors

Abstract: In permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) models, only the stator part is given as an electrical circuit and mechanical equations are used for modelling the mechanical part of the machine. In this study, electrical equivalents of mechanical equations are also obtained and mechanical parameters of a PMSM are expressed as an electrical circuit element. In this way, an exact electrical equivalent circuit is proposed in which both the stator and the mechanical part can be modelled as an electrical circuit for t… Show more

“…These conditions include hysteresis effects, saturation effects, and if the back EMF is assumed to be sinusoidal. Based on this, the equivalent circuit can be described by using ( 1) and ( 2), as it was shown in [8]. These equations are only meant for determining the operational parameters of the PMSM.…”

“…What often is not taken into account in the Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) modeling, as the motors are simplified to balanced passive circuits, is the Back Electromagnetic Force (EMF). This paper will therefore investigate the motor modeling, including different EMF modeling techniques [8], and their impact on the total EMI running along the cables. Which will therefore impact the filtering effort [9].…”

“…So, like a synchronous motor, a permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) has a sinusoidal induced Electromotive Force (EMF) and needs a sinusoidal current to generate a constant torque. The winding rotor of an induction or synchronous motor has a lower torque-to-inertia ratio and power density, according to recent study on the design of permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSM) [9], [10].…”
