Motivated by the recent work on β -alumina polycrystalline ceramics, we revisit the frequency dispersion behavior of AgI. Series of admittance and capacitance Bode plots at different temperatures revealed the presence of well-defined parallel capacitance effects and powerlaw frequency dependencies. Non-trivial bulk dispersion is thus successfully described by the bulk conductance with activation energy of 0.262 eV in parallel connection to several capacitive effects: (i) a mobile-charge contribution, universally observed in many solid electrolytes, approximated by a Cole-Davidson model with C ∼ = 28, γ C ∼ =0.388, and (τ C ) −1 thermally activated by 0.237 eV, (ii) a dipolar and vibratory contribution represented by another Cole-Davidson model of the dielectric strength of D ∼ = 9.0 with γ D ∼ =0.110, τ D ∼ =0.003 s, corresponding to Nearly-Constant-Loss behavior, and (iii) high frequency limit capacitance corresponding to the dielectric constant S ∼ =6.4. Electrode effects are described by an ideal Warburg response and the coefficient activated by 0.165 eV, which is connected in parallel to the bulk capacitive elements (i) to (iii). The modeling allows a simulation of ac behavior of AgI as a function of temperature as well as frequencies, addressing all of the universally observed dispersive responses.

Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) is widely used to probe the physical and chemical processes in lithium (Li)-ion batteries (LiBs). The key parameters include state-of-charge, rate capacity or power fade, degradation and temperature dependence, which are needed to inform battery management systems as well as for quality assurance and monitoring. All-solid-state batteries using a solid-state electrolyte (SE), promise greater energy densities via a Li metal anode as well as enhanced safety, but their development is in its nascent stages and the EIS measurement, cell set-up and modelling approach can be vastly different for various SE chemistries and cell configurations. This review aims to condense the current knowledge of EIS in the context of state-of-the-art solid-state electrolytes and batteries, with a view to advancing their scale-up from the laboratory to commercial deployment. Experimental and modelling best practices are highlighted, as well as emerging impedance methods for conventional LiBs as a guide for opportunities in the solid-state.

In this work, 0.95(K0.5Na0.5)NbO3–0.05(Bi0.5Na0.5)(Zr0.85Sn0.15)O3 (KNN–BNZS) lead‐free piezoelectric single crystals are grown by the solid‐state crystal growth (SSCG) method and their phase transitions and properties characterized. Addition of an appropriate amount of Li2CO3 and Bi2O3 sintering aids considerably promotes single‐crystal growth. Chemical composition of the single crystal is similar to the nominal composition with a slight deficiency in Na and K as evaluated by electron probe microanalysis (EPMA). X‐Ray diffraction (XRD), electrical property measurements, and temperature‐controlled Raman scattering reveal that the phase transition near room temperature is from a rhombohedral to an orthorhombic or tetragonal phase. Wide temperature range Raman scattering and dielectric properties consistently indicate transitions associated with the phase transformations or boundaries of a phase coexistence region and further details. Nontrivial frequency dependence of dielectric properties is successfully parameterized by capacitance relaxations described by Debye and Cole–Cole responses with special constant phase elements with fixed exponents of 0.5 (Warburg elements). High‐frequency dielectric constants and additional dielectric relaxations and dc relaxations are deconvoluted. The modeling parameters indicate the phase transition temperatures (or boundaries of the phase coexistence region) unambiguously. Polarization–electric field and bipolar strain–electric field hysteresis loops show that the single crystal is a classic lossy ferroelectric material.
