Electrical analysis and ultra-fast sequential imaging of surface barrier discharge with streamer-leader sequence generated with 100 kHz frequency at the water interface

Abstract: A time resolved study of the electrical parameters and ultra-fast 2D imaging of the surface barrier discharge emerging from liquid electrodes in atmospheric pressure argon is reported. Analysing the electrical measurements and the charge-voltage (Q-V) plots, a resistive component of the electrical system impedance is revealed and described by the logical progression of the method to current-voltage (I-V) plots. The necessity to include a resistive component in the simplest equivalent circuit is demonstrated. N… Show more

“…The comparison of the results obtained with the equations ( 3) and (8) with experimental data is presented in figure 2. The measurements were taken from [14] and has been obtained with SDBD samples prepared by printed circuit board technology with 0.5 mm thick dielectric (FR-4 TG135) and straight electrodes, operated at ambient air.…”

“…For this reasons the first fit was made assuming C = 0 and C 0 = C cell . The obtained values of the coefficient α and V 0 were used as the initial parameters for the second fit by equation (8). The resulting values of the coefficients are presented in the first two rows of table 1.…”

“…This effect of pulling out the Lissajous figure was described by Kriegseis et al [20] The effect of resistance on Lissajous figures can be seen in Figure 3. This resistance has been observed in other SDBDs as well, [21] and it is hypothesized here that it most likely stems from the manufacturing of SDBDs using an adhesive to attach the dielectric and conductive layers, resulting in a resistive adhesive layer to the electrode. Other manufacturing procedures that do not rely on adhesives have not reported a considerable equivalent series resistance.…”
