Electric Wire as Foreign Body in the Bladder and Urethra—a Case Report and Review of Literature

Abstract: Foreign body in the urinary bladder is a relatively rare occurrence. A variety of foreign bodies, majority of which were mostly self-inflicted for autoerotic reasons, have been reported in the literature. Here, we report a case of selfinserted electric wire in the bladder and review the literature.

“…Injury patterns of anterior urethra vary and encompass mainly urethral crush injuries with straddle and iatrogenic injuries. [13][14][15] The mainstay objectives for managing anterior urethral injuries are to obtain prompt urinary drainage and reestablish urethral continuity while preventing complications, such as stricture, ED, and incontinence, 16,17 which is different from posterior urethral injury. Timing for surgical intervention is controversial, [18][19][20] and depends largely on the patient's condition and surgeon's comfort.…”

“…Wise considered urethral manipulation as a paraphilia combining sadomasochistic and fetishist elements, where the orgasm of a particular individual depends on the presence of a fetish. 6 Our first case was a 5-year-old girl who inserted an eyeliner cap into her vagina while playing with it was quite unnatural as the girl was not supposed to be aware of vaginal orifice and not self-motivated to insert such foreign body. Her parents told us the history and details of the foreign body and showed an eyeliner with missing cap.…”
