A novel design and analysis of quarter cylindrical dielectric resonator antenna (q-CDRA) with multielement and multi-segment (MEMS) approach has been presented. The MEMS q-CDRA has been designed by splitting four identical quarters from a solid cylinder and then multi-segmentation approach has been utilized to design q-CDRA. The proposed antenna has been designed for enhancement in bandwidth as well as for high gain. For bandwidth enhancement, multi-segmentation method has been explained for the selection of dielectric constant of materials. The performance of the proposed MEMS q-CDRA has been demonstrated with design guideline of MEMS approach. To validate the antenna performance, three segments q-CDRA has been fabricated and analyzed practically. The simulated results have been in good agreement with measured one. The MEMS q-CDRA has wide impedance bandwidth (|S 11 | ≤ −10 dB) of 133.8 % with monopole-like radiation pattern. The proposed MEMS q-CDRA has been operating at TM 01δ mode with the measured gain of 6.65 dBi and minimum gain of 4.5 dBi in entire operating frequency band (5.1-13.7 GHz). The proposed MEMS q-CDRA may find appropriate applications in WiMAX and WLAN band.

Abstract-In this paper dual segment half Cylindrical Dielectric Resonator Antennas (DS h-CDRA), deploying homogenous elements, are designed and analyzed for wide-band applications. At first a single element is analyzed followed by two element DS h-CDRA. Further, Radar Cross Section (RCS) analysis is performed for different angles and frequencies. The proposed antennas are excited from the center of the ground plane using a coaxial probe feed, which results in TM 01δ as a mode of excitation in cylindrical DRA. The input impedance and radiation characteristics are determined and compared with measured results, which shows good agreement. The proposed DS h-CDRA provides measured wide bandwidth (≈ 98%) from 5.0 GHz to 11.5 GHz with gain of 4.85 dBi, and it is found constant throughout the operational band (with omnidirectional radiation pattern). The designed antennas performance has also been compared with two element h-CDRA and found even better for the same volume and effective radiation area. The RCS analysis has been performed for monostatic and bistatic mode at different frequencies and angles. The proposed antenna has been found suitable for 5.0 GHz WLAN and WiMAX wireless application.

Abstract-A wideband dual segment three element triangular dielectric resonator antenna (TDRA) has been proposed for applications in X-band. Proposed antenna has been fabricated and tested. The simulation study of the antenna is carried out using Ansoft HFSS simulation software. The simulation results for input characteristics and radiation patterns of the proposed antenna are compared with corresponding experimental results at the resonant frequency. The simulation results are in agreement with the measurement results. The return loss-frequency characteristics of the proposed antenna are also compared with those of single element, and three element TDRAs.
