Electric Car Chassis for Shell Eco Marathon Competition: Design, Modelling and Finite Element Analysis

Abstract: The increasing demand for energy efficient electric cars, in the automotive sector, entails the need for improvement of their structures, especially the chassis, because of its multifaceted role on the vehicle dynamic behaviour. The major criteria for the development of electric car chassis are the stiffness and strength enhancement subject to mass reduction as well as cost and time elimination. Towards this direction, this work indicates an integrated methodology of developing an electric car chassis consider… Show more

“…With the designed chassis FEA method, the condition of the chassis under stress was examined with ANSYS program. Thus, the chassis design was realized with an accurate ultra-fast and cost-effective method [23]. A structurally balanced chassis was designed for an electric motorcycle in a 2018 study by Joel et al simulated the real-time forces on the chassis and suspension geometries.…”

“…On the other hand, there has been a need for lower conceptual design costs within a shorter time frame, and there has also been a need for new modeling techniques, which has led automotive manufacturers to find better ways to develop vehicles. Simulation through finite element analysis (FEA) is a cost and time efficient way to develop vehicle chassis while utilizing the saved time for innovative product development [8]. The modeling methodology of chassis is another important advantage associated with using FEA as it helps in studying the Steven Odi-Owei 1 , Emeka Obiora Anisiji 1 , and Frank Efe Erukainure 1*…”
