Elective and Emergent Endovascular Treatment of Subclavian Artery Aneurysms and Injuries

Abstract: Endovascular stent-graft treatment of subclavian artery aneurysms and injuries is a less invasive alternative to surgical repair. Long-term results must still be confirmed in further studies.

“… 11 The case highlights the possibility of a change from the conventional approach of resecting a subclavian artery aneurysm to a minimalistic intervention. 12 , 13 Moreover, this novel endovascular solution was applied to a patient with MFS, a setting where endovascular strategies are far from being established. 5 , 6 Conversely, particularly in cases with multiple previous thoracotomies and major surgery, a minimally invasive procedure may be the best option regardless of the Marfan background.…”

“…Stent grafts are known to have 94-100% success rates for treatment of inadvertent subclavian artery catheter placement. 5) In Korea, stent grafts are covered by health insurance and are cheaper than percutaneous closure devices. Although stent graft placement at the subclavian artery presents the risk of vertebral artery occlusion, it is possible to deploy a stent graft without vertebral artery occlusion by following the digital subtraction angiography "road map".…”
