eleanor: An Open-source Tool for Extracting Light Curves from the TESS Full-frame Images

Abstract: During its two year prime mission the Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS) will perform a time-series photometric survey covering over 80% of the sky. This survey comprises observations of 26 24 • × 96 • sectors that are each monitored continuously for approximately 27 days. The main goal of TESS is to find transiting planets around 200,000 pre-selected stars for which fixed aperture photometry is recorded every two minutes. However, TESS is also recording and delivering Full-Frame Images (FFIs) of eac… Show more

“…At present, the most advanced pipeline aimed at the extraction of any kind of light curve from FFIs is eleanor (Feinstein et al 2019). In this section we compare the quality of our photometry with that obtained by eleanor, highlighting the importance of neighbour subtraction when we consider crowded environments.…”

“…We produced a higher-quality lightcurve using the pipeline (Feinstein et al 2019) which we use for the rest of this work. This aperture includes TIC-231005576 ( = 14.9277) 3.25" away at a position angle of 126.93 • East of North.…”

“…We used the ELEANOR software package (v0.2.4; Feinstein et al 2019) to download and background-subtract a 13 × 13 (4.5 × 4.5 arcmin) Target Pixel File centred on J0552−0044 ( Fig. 4) suitable for aperture photometry.…”
