Elastofibromatous lesion as a differential diagnosis of white lesions of the oral mucosa

Abstract: periadnexal and perivascular infiltrate of predominantly lymphocytes with some plasma cells, later followed by adnexal atrophy, loss of periadnexal fat, and marked dermal sclerosis. Morphea profunda extends deep into subcutaneous issue and shows predominantly septal panniculitis with septal fibrosis, fat replacement, and aggregates of lymphoplasmacytic infiltrate. 10,11 Postirradiation pseudosclerodermatous panniculitis is a rare condition usually presenting as an indurated plaque with the histomorphology of l… Show more

“…In the oral cavity, several cases diagnosed as elastofibromatous lesions or elastofibroma, clinically mimicking FH and leukoplakia, have been reported. Most cases appear to be strongly related to trauma or irritation 4,5 . Also, intraoral elastofibromatous changes affecting salivary gland neoplasms, epithelial dysplasia, carcinoma in situ, and non‐odontogenic cyst have been described, 4,9,10 with the current case expanding their clinicopatological spectrum.…”
