In this study, a mechanical model for tunnels excavated in a non-uniform stress field is developed. A new strain-softening model simultaneously considers the weakening of cohesion and internal friction angle is proposed. Then, an analytical solution for the post-peak region radii, stresses, and displacements is deduced. Taking a tunnel in Taoyuan coal mine as an engineering example, the post-peak region radii, surface displacement, and stresses distribution are determined. The effects of the horizontal-to-vertical stress ratio, intermediate principal stress, residual cohesion, and residual internal friction angle on tunnel deformations are discussed. The results show that the post-peak region radii and stresses distribution around the tunnel varies with direction due to the non-uniform stress field. The post-peak region radii and surface displacement are larger with consideration of intermediate principal stress. Tunnels surrounded by rock masses with a higher residual cohesion and internal friction angle experience lower post-peak region radii and surface displacement. Based on the triaxial test, the elasto-perfectly plastic strain-softening damage model (EPSDM) is proposed as a new four-stage constitutive model. Compared with traditional models, such as the elasto-brittle-plastic model (EBM), elasto-strain-softening model (ESM), elasto-perfectly plastic model (EPM), and elasto-peak plastic-brittle plastic model (EPBM), this model incorporates both the plastic bearing capacity and strain-softening characteristics of rock mass. Moreover, a new closed-form solution of the circular tunnel is presented for the stress and displacement distribution, and a plastic shear strain increment is introduced to define the critical condition where the strain-softening zone begins to occur. e new analysis solution obtained in this paper is a series of results rather than one specific solution; hence, it is suitable for a wide range of rock masses and engineering structures. e numerical simulation has been used to verify the correctness of the EPSDM. e parametric studies are also conducted to investigate the effects of supporting resistance, residual cohesion, dilation angle, strain-softening coefficient, plastic shear strain increment, and yield parameter on the result. It is shown that when the supporting resistance is fully released, both the post-peak failure radii and surface displacement could be summarized as EBM > EPBM > ESM > EPSDM > EPM; the dilation angle in the damage zone had the highest influence on the surface displacement, whereas the dilation angle in the perfectly plastic zone had the lowest influence; the strainsoftening coefficient had the most significant effect on the damage zone radii; the EPSDM is recommended as the optimum model for support design and stability evaluation of the circular tunnel excavated in the perfectly plastic strain-softening rock mass.

Segmented enlarged‐diameter borehole destressing mechanism and its influence on anchorage support system

Large‐diameter borehole destressing technology is one of the main technical measures for the prevention and control of coal mine rock burst. In engineering practice, there is generally a contradicting problem due to the presence of excess destressing which damages support system and insufficient destressing which results in high stress hardly transfer. In this paper, the mechanism of large‐diameter borehole destressing technology and its influence on anchorage support were simulated and analyzed. Based on this, a segmented enlarged‐diameter borehole destressing technology was proposed. The destressing effect at deep part and anchorage strength changing at shallow part of the coal rib were studied under different borehole parameters. Numerical simulation results show that the destressing effect increases with the increase of the borehole diameter, while borehole with oversize diameter increases the deformation of the roadway and weakens the strength of the anchorage support. The diameter‐enlarging point in segmented enlarged‐diameter borehole destressing technology is best placed between the anchorage end and the vertical stress peak point. The anchorage strength is inversely correlated with the diameter of the small‐diameter section, and the destressing effect is positively correlated with the diameter of the large‐diameter section. Based on its advantages in destressing, the segmented enlarged‐diameter boreholes and anchorage support are applied together, and a system of destressing‐support cooperative control of rock burst is presented. The roles in rock burst control of "zone of strong anchorage support" and "zone of low stress and energy dissipation" are described.
