Abstract:Kinks can appear along the contour of semiflexible polymers (biopolymers or synthetic ones), and they affect their elasticity and function. A regular sequence of alternating kink defects can form a semiflexible nanospring. In this article, we theoretically analyze the elastic behavior of such a nanospring with a point magnetic dipole attached to one end while the other end is assumed to be grafted to a rigid substrate. The rod-like segments of the nanospring are treated as weakly bending wormlike chains, and t… Show more

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
