Elastic wave speeds, Debye temperature and microhardness of YX3 (X = In, Sn, Tl and Pb) intermetallic compounds

Rabie Mezouar,
Nacer Logzit,
Abdelfateh Benmakhlouf

Abstract: In the present work, we reviewed and report on the theoretical prediction of the longitudinal, transverse and average elastic wave veloci-ties, and the Debye temperature for some nonmagnetic YX3 (X = In, Sn, Tl, and Pb) intermetallic compounds with stable cubic AuCu3-type structure. The lattice parameters and the elastic constants used here are taken from the work of Abraham et al [1] using the general-ized gradient approximation (PBE-GGA). Our results are analyzed and compared with the available theoretical a… Show more

“…The hardness has a significant effect on the applications of the functional materials [44]. If the elastic moduli of the aggregate polycrystalline solids are known, it is possible to use them to calculate their hardness and several other paramters [45][46][47][48][49][50]. The Vickers hardness HV and the shear modulus G are related by the empirical formula given as: HV = 0.1475 × G [51,52].…”
