The aim of this study was to evaluate the properties of Hevea brasiliensis wood wastes for production structural pieces of glued laminated (glulam) timber. Three trees with age close to 25 years and diameter at breast height (DBH) higher than 500 mm were obtained. The basic density of the wood were quantified, as well as the stiffness and the strength in static bending, shear strength and parallel compression to grain and hygroscopic equilibrium moisture. The beams of glulam were evaluated according to the modulus of elasticity (MOE), modulus of rupture (MOR) and delamination. Due to the bending properties MOR (75.14 MPa) and MOE (8166.79 MPa), as well as the shear strength (12.29 MPa) obtained, was concluded by the suitability of the rubber wood for the production of glulam beams. The composite beams presented values of MOR (75.14 MPa) and MOE (8166.79 MPa) compatible with species traditionally used in the production of glulam beams. The adhesive bond quality was verified by the delamination test, presenting delamination of 4.95 %, indicating its use for internal and external environments.

The strain-softening response and failure of oriented strand boards (OSB) are investigated both experimentally and numerically. Standard tests are used to characterize the elastic (MOE) as well as damage properties (damage height, damage initiation strain and fracture energy) of OSB in two principal (parallel and perpendicular) directions. Experimental data are then used in conjunction with a recently developed physically-based damage model to simulate the nonlinear response of notched OSB samples under tension using the finite element (FE) method. Acceptable agreement between the FE simulations and experimental data are found. The results suggest that a strain-softening approach is capable of accurately modelling the damage progression in notched OSB samples.

To satisfy the many requirements of our daily life, complex textiles that are both functional and beneficial have been successfully designed and developed. This research investigates the design of bamboo charcoal/spandex (BC/S) complex yarns, fabricated with a blend of spandex and bamboo charcoal polyester textured yarn, which possess superior elastic recovery. The expansion multiples of the spandex was 1.5-3.5, the wrap counts are 2-4.5 turns/cm, and the speed of the rotor twister was 4000-12000 rpm. When the speed of the rotor twister was between 4000 and 12000 rpm, the expansion multiple was 1.5 and the elastic recovery rate was maintained at 93% or above. Furthermore, the far infrared emissivity of BC/S complex knitted fabric was over 0.9, but descended with the lamination number. The BC/S complex knitted fabric also contained an anion count of 356 anions/cc.
