Elastic and Inelastic Scattering ofKr86fromPb

Abstract: Elastic and inelastic scattering of 86 Kr on 208 Pb to discrete states have been measured at 695-MeV bombarding energy and the observed differential cross sections have been analyzed with a coupled-channels calculation. The obtained ion-ion potential differs significantly from those derived from previous poor-resolution experiments on similar systems, but is consistent with a global potential based upon lighter-mass systematics.

“…Similar observations were also made in a study of the 2~ 86Kr system at 8.1 MeV/u [15,29]. Already the cross-section for exciting the first 2+-level in 86Kr was found to be as large as the elastic cross-section at and beyond the quarter point angle [15], while the 1 n pick-up channel carried much less cross-section [29]. It is an interesting aside that this 87Kr angular distribution could be described by DWBA where six hole states in z~ and five particle states in 87Kr were considered.…”

“…It means that, in this case, half of all interacting nuclei are excited before nucleon transfer takes place.
