Abstract

Fatal cardiopulmonary arrest secondary to asthma attack: case reportA 39-year-old woman developed fatal cardiopulmonary arrest secondary to asthma attack following administration of elasomeran COVID-19 vaccine.The woman with asthma was transferred to emergency department (ED) following cardiopulmonary arrest (CPA). In the past, she was diagnosed with asthma, but was not taking any regular medication. One year ago, her last exacerbation occurred when she gave birth to twins. Three days after receiving the first dose of the elasomeran [Moderna COVID-19 vaccine; mRNA-1273; route and dosage not stated] vaccine, she suddenly experienced a severe asthma attack after dinner and emergency medical services were called.At that time, she went into CPA, immediately requiring cardiopulmonary resuscitation. The resuscitation was continued until she arrived at the ED. Upon arrival at the ED, spontaneous circulation was regained by oxygenation and IV administration epinephrine [adrenaline]. Based on the high inspiratory airway pressure after intubation and medical history, a severe asthma attack was considered as the cause of CPA. She was in a vegetative state due to a prolonged CPA. She died due to CPA.
