Elaboration and Characterization of Bioceramics from Natural Phosphate

Abstract: The aim of this work is the substitution of the bovine bone by the natural phosphate from Djebelel-Onk (Tébessa, East of Algeria). We prepared two composites (bone/Al2O3 and natural phosphate/Al2O3) by reaction sintering. Different experimental techniques, including density, porosity, X-rays diffraction, and SEM techniques, were used to analyze the formation and transformation of phases at different temperatures. From the X-ray diffraction patterns, we put in evidence the formation of several phases. Through t… Show more

“…The effect of avicel content in carbon-graphite composites on surface properties, porosity and density are summarized in Table 1. The closed porosities of the graphite carbon materials decrease with increasing the content of avicel, while the porosities accordingly increase which are responsible for the densities decrease [8]. In fact, during the preparation of different samples, the polymers blend of avicel and phenolic resin (avicel is the minor phase and phenolic resin is the major phase) at the KS44-0 (11% Acicel), the structure of the blend is made in speared domains of avicel imbedded inside the phenolic resin matrix.…”

“…Quartz, calcite, dolomite and ZnO were derived from deposits in Algeria, zircon was provided by Chilches Materials, Castellón, Spain. The raw DD 1 kaolin materials, which their absolute density, measured with a helium pycnometer apparatus is 2.63 g/cm 3 , was milled dry using a Retsch PM100 ball mill for 15 minutes. The chemical compositions of raw materials were determined by an X-ray fluorescence spectrometer Rigaku ZSX Primus IV (see Table I).…”

“…Many local raw materials, like kaolin, feldspar, quartz, calcite and dolomite, are very abundant and they are used in industrial ceramics because of availability and low cost. Several research studies have already been published about the valorization of raw materials for the production of ceramic membranes [1], dental porcelains [2], bioceramics [3], technical porcelain [4], glass [5] and glass-ceramic [6]. Therefore, the exploitation of new raw material resources satisfying the criteria of ceramic industries is important.…”

“…It is very interesting from a technological point of view, because is characterized by good resistance to thermal stress, low dielectric constant, and low thermal expansion coefficient [2,3]. This is what qualifies for use in wall tiles and porcelain, in the field of electronics industry and biomedical materials [4][5][6][7]. In general, fabrication of anorthite was widely studied by using different methods such as sintering of kaolin and calcite mixtures, mechanochemical treatments and sol-gel process [8,9].…”
