Show more

“…In a similar way, there was also a trend of increase of maintenance behaviors under low interference or white noise alone. This category is composed of behaviors with regulatory functions in the physiology and welfare of birds, such as thermoregulation ("Bill opening") and arranging the feathers ("Feather settling") (Neto et al 2021;Ferreira et al 2022). However, the increase in some maintenance behaviors in captivity is also associated with stress, such as "Feather settling" and the stretching of legs and wings (Neto et al 2021), or to a lack of stimulus for other behaviors, such "Autopreening" (Herculano et al 2013).…”

“…In the Acoustic experiment, the Great-Billed Seed-Finch increases the display of the "Bill opening" behavior in the treatment where the white noise totally masked the call model (no information available). This behavior is considered a maintenance behavior, because it has a regulatory function in the physiology and welfare of birds, helping the individual in thermoregulation ("Bill opening") (Neto et al 2021;Ferreira et al 2022). The increase of this behavior is indicative of the bird anxiety (Neto et al 2021), but was elicited by an unrecognized sound (the white noise) instead of the incompleteness of the information, suggesting a type of neophobia.…”
