“…Acabam por serem sólidos ácidos muito atraentes com elevada estabilidade térmica superior em comparação com outras argilas semelhantes [14]. Devido a uma grande variedade de composições possíveis, a vermiculita apresenta uma elevada capacidade de troca catiônica (CTC) de 100-150 meq/100 g de argila [15].…”

“…When the amount of VMT was more than 13 wt%, frontal velocity and T max increased as the VMT content increased from 13 to 21 wt%. This is because that VMT has low bulk density (80–120 kg m −3 ) and low thermal conductivity (0.04–0.12 w (mk) −1 ) , leading to a good insulation effect. When VMT content exceeded 21 wt%, monomer concentration of per unit volume is low and consequently heat released from reaction is less, endothermic effect of VMT is greater than the insulation effect, so the propagating front quenched.…”

“…Many applications include the compaction processes of expanded vermiculite or its integration in composite materials. The mechanical properties as well as the apparent density of vermiculite are linked to the particle size [6]. Understanding the relationship between porosity, particle size, mechanical properties and thermal insulating capacity is fundamental for the design of new refractory materials for a wide range of important technological fields such as furnaces, reactors, building, petrochemical and environmental applications.…”
