Show more

These data are consistent with thermal maturity studies (Zurita et al, 2000) and structural profiles (Fock, 2005;Farías et al, 2008;Jara et al, 2009b;Piquer et al, 2010), supporting the hypothesis that the Abanico Basin was almost clogged during the inversion stage. The greatest accumulation of both syn-rift and syn-inversion deposits has been found next to the main faults.…”

“…In the study area, these geological domains are represented by the Mesozoic Río Damas, Baños del Flaco and Colimapu Formations and the Cenozoic Abanico Formation. This major tectonic boundary has been interpreted as the eastern border of Abanico extensional basin (Piquer et al 2010;Charrier et al 2002), developed during the Eocene to the Early Miocene (Giambiagi et al 2015). According to Piquer et al 2015, the Abanico basin was compartmentalized by previous regional-scale normal fault systems striking NW and NE.…”

“…and some of these granitoids constitute very important porphyry Cu (-Mo) deposits (Maksaev et al, 2003;Deckart et al, 2010;Piquer et al, 2010). Geodetic models based on GPS estimations reveal that the current convergence rate between the Nazca and South American plates in this segment of the Andes is around 70 mm/a (Norabuena et al, 1999;Kendrik et al, 2003).…”

“…15e). Magmatic activity was intense during the Miocene and Pliocene in Chile, where widespread volcanic and plutonic rocks are exposed approximately between 33º and 35ºS (Maksaev et al, 2003;Deckart et al, 2010;Piquer et al, 2010). Fission track analysis in apatite reveal cooling ages from 21 to 3.1 Ma and suggest an important period of Andean uplift and denudation between 5.6 and 3.1 Ma (Maksaev et al, 2003).…”
