Einfluss von Sturzgefährdung und Sturzangst auf die Mobilität selbstständig lebender, älterer Menschen am Übergang zur Gebrechlichkeit

Abstract: The fall-risk screening instrument ("Sturz-Risiko-Check" questionnaire) was useful and valid to predict risk of falling and functional decline in independently living senior citizens transitioning to frailty. This screening will be part of a prevention approach in the City of Hamburg to offer primary and secondary prevention interventions adapted to special target groups of community- dwelling elder people (robust in contrast to frail elderly). The implementation should be accompanied by training sessions for … Show more

“…Scores range from 16 to 64 points, with higher values representing more concerns in fall-prone situations. As there is a strong correlation between fall risk, ambulation and mobility [ 42 , 43 ], a German version of the FES-I was administered by interview as a reproducible and valid self-reported instrument for construct validity analysis [ 40 , 44 , 45 ].…”

“…Both, risk factors and resources were included equally in the FA index (questions see Table 1 ): First, we operationalized the frailty phenotype “weight loss, slow gait, weakness, exhaustion, reduced physical activity” [ 4 ] plus “instability/falls” [ 28 ]. The following resources were included: good endurance, frequent outside walking, moderate/strenuous sports or recreation, regular volunteer or paid work, and no limitation of activity due to fear of falling [ 29 ], i.e.…”

“…The global causes of blindness are cataract (51%), glaucoma (8%), age-related macula degeneration (AMD) (5%), childhood blindness and corneal opacities (each 4%), uncorrected refractive errors and trachoma (each 3%), diabetic retinopathy (1%) and undetermined causes (21%) [1]. Visual impairment of the aged population is one of the main causes of diminished independence, mobility restriction, falls and fractures [2, 3]. …”
