Six different inoculation methods have been tested to determine Pseudocercosporella herpo‐trichoides resistance of wheat using small seed‐samples. The observed differentiation among hosts corresponds to that known from the literature:‘Diplomat’ and ‘Caribo’ are susceptible whereas ‘VPM1’, ‘Rendezvous’ and ‘Roazon’ carry resistance transferred from Aegilops ventricosa. The modified method of Frauenstein and Roskothen (1979) seems to be most efficient: it is timesaving, easy to use and only small seed‐samples are necessary. Such resistance testing can be used in early generations of breeding programmes.
