In contrast, the European literature is replete with investigations of, and warnings against Trichuris infections in moose [Wetzel and Enigk, 1936;Hediger, 1942Hediger, , 1949Rikovski, 1955;Enigk, 1961;Kreis, 1962;Heptner et al, 1966;Dalchow and Weissenburg, 1968;Lindau, 1968;Smirnova, 1971;Heptner and Nasimowitsch, 1974;Dittrich, 1976;Wolf, 1981;Goeltenboth and Kloes, 1985;Duewel and Schmidt, 1986;von Krogh, 1987;Pfister et al, 1989;Bartmann, 1990;Ritscher, 1990]. Our finding of 48% of documented whipworm infections in moose that died from WSC supports the notion of parallelism and does not contradict the notion of causality.…”
