Ein sakrokokzygeales Chordom mit maligner Spindelzellkomponente

Abstract: Malignant fibrous histiocytoma (MFH), arising in combination with a sacral chordoma in a 70-year-old men, is described. Intermediate spindle-shaped cells demonstrating keratin positivity, showed a gradual transition between the areas of conventional chordoma, and the spindle cell areas, lending credence to the theory of a multipotential neoplasm. We chose the descriptive term "chordoma with malignant spindle cell component" in the sense that high malignant sarcomatous components exists in conjunction with chor… Show more

“…The appearance of metastases depends mainly on the histological differentiation of the tumour, and should not be correlated to the duration of the clinical course. However, a histological judgement is difficult, since significant prognostic influences of the cellular structure have not been proved yet [23,24]. The histological differential diagnosis comprises mucinous adenocarcinoma, chondrosarcoma, chondroma, pleomorphic adenoma, and the myxopapillary ependymoma.…”

“…of metastasis depends mainly on the histological differentiation of the tumor and should not be correlated to the duration of the clinical course. 6,10,11,[18][19][20][21][22][23][24][25] It appears that the metastatic potential of chordoma is higher than originally believed. Metastasis may be present with the primary tumor at the time of the initial presentation or it may develop months or years later.…”
