The Barbados Oceanographic and Meteorological Experiment is a national experiment scheduled to take place May 1-July 31, 1969, in the ocean area north and east of the Island of Barbados. The experimental area for at least the first half of the experiment is outlined by the ships in Fig. 1. Although some international participation is anticipated, the experiment is regarded as primarily a United States contribution to the Global Atmospheric Research Program. The experiment is broad in scope. The scientific programs fall broadly into the fields of oceanography (tides, internal waves, variability, etc.), satellite meteorology, atmospheric convection and radiation, and synoptic FIG. 1.
