“…On concrete types of engagement, the survey from Höltmann et al (2022) reveal that about one‐third of the population donates financially or in kind, which they claim is similar to the situation in 2015 (Jacobsen et al, 2017) and about 4 per cent of the population hosts refugees at home. Looking at the willingness to support, Dollmann et al (2023) report higher figures, even if slightly decreasing since the beginning of the war (see also Mayer et al, 2022). While the mismatch between willingness and action to support might imply an untapped potential, the overall support towards the reception of forced migrants from Ukraine is proof enough that the “culture of welcome” is alive and kicking at the societal level.…”

Nationwide representative surveys also display that support for reception of Ukrainian refugees is and remains very high over time (Dollmann et al, 2023).…”

“…This topic represents an important domain of political views, and represents a current and societally relevant matter. Moreover, the topic is of interest for the present work for the following reasons: The war against Ukraine war has the potential to elicit diverging opinions with some individuals showing stronger support for the Russian side and others showing stronger support for the Ukrainian side; although the majority of the EU and German citizens seems to support sanctions against Russia and support for Ukraine (Dollmann et al, 2023;European Commission, 2022). In addition, the war against Ukraine was prominently featured in many media outlets at the time of study planning and conducting the study in Germany and surrounding countries (Goldschmidtböing et al, 2022;Udris et al, 2022).…”
