“…Mean eggshell thickness ranges from 0.17 to 0.30 mm for quail eggs (Ergun and Yamak, 2017); therefore, the results of this study were within the normal values for quail eggs and did not influence eggshell quality, since specific weight and eggshell weight were not affected. Specific weight is an indirect measure of eggshell quality and is strongly positively correlated with eggshell thickness (Kibala et al, 2018). In agreement with the results of the current study, Belloni et al (2015), Zeweil et al (2016), andSoltani et al (2019) reported that propolis had no effect on egg quality (egg weight, specific weight, shell weight, Haugh unit, and yolk and albumen indices).…”

“…Hamilton (1982) presented that eggshell thickness is an indirect trait to determine its strength. The result of this study is associated with earlier studies that reported significant positive correlations between eggshell breaking strength and eggshell thickness (Yan et al, 2014;Kibala, 2018). Moreover, this result is consistent with Bain (2005), who has indicated that thicker eggshells are not necessarily the same as stronger eggshells because the strength of eggshells is related to mineral components of the eggshell.…”

“…This could be due to the higher egg size of SB (Omotara et (Kibala et al, 2018). Genotypic differences in ST is related to differences in body physiology (Ombasilar and Tabib, 2019) however, overall shell quality largely depends on environmental factors such as age of ock, diet, stress, disease, and rearing system (Kibala et al, 2018). The values reported for ST in the present study fall within the normal range of 0.35-0.40 mm for chickens (Kibala et al, 2018).…”

“…This suggests that unimproved local breeds (laying smaller eggs) have higher proportion of yolk compared to commercial strains (laying large sized eggs) as was alluded to by previous studies (Rakonjac et In the present study, chicken genotype signi cantly in uenced all albumen quality parameters except AI with eggs of SB having higher values compared to those of HEN. This could be due to the higher egg size of SB (Omotara et (Kibala et al, 2018).
