“…In contrast, a pattern of association has been found in the job strain model for the decision authority dimension only. This finding is consistent with what previously reported on the predominant role of low decision authority in association with ABP (Clays et al 2007;Steptoe et al 2004), and, more broadly, that in the job strain model it is control over the work process rather than high job demands or job strain that increasingly emerges as the main critical component of the healthy work environment (Johnson et al 1996). Although this study not found significant differences between the two work stress models in term of associations with ABP, the more consistent pattern of association for decision latitude in the JDC model and for the extrinsic part in the ERI model deserves to be confirmed in populations with larger variance in subjective work stress or in heterogeneous work settings.…”

“…Similar considerations can be applied for the ERI model. A positive relationship between SBP and overcommitment has been reported only in men from a heterogeneous sample of civil servant, while no effect has been found for effort-reward imbalance (Steptoe et al 2004). Vrijkotte et al (2000), in a sample of 109 male whitecollar employees of a Dutch computer company, reported that the group classified as having high imbalance had significantly higher work and home SBP, but they did not found effect on DBP and in relation to overcommitment.…”

“…Direct and indirect adverse health effects of high effort and low reward have been reported in prospective and cross-sectional epidemiological investigations (Chandola et al 2005;Tsutsumi and Kawakami 2004). In addition, this exposure was associated with altered hormonal secretion, increased heart rate and blood pressure responses, and reduced heart rate variability (Steptoe et al 2004;Vrijkotte et al 2000).…”

“…Job stress (Kunz-Ebrecht et al, 2004b;Steptoe et al, 2004), financial problems , depressive symptoms (Pruessner et al, 2003b), and chronic work overload (Schlotz et al, 2004;Schulz et al, 1998;Wuest et al, 2000a) International Journal of Psychophysiology 64 (2007) 141 -145 www.elsevier.com/locate/ijpsycho were related to increased cortisol secretions after awakening. These results were interpreted as indicative of chronic stress causing HPA activity.…”
