Efficiently texturing hierarchical superhydrophobic fluoride-free translucent films by AACVD with excellent durability and self-cleaning ability

Abstract: Robust fluoride-free translucent superhydrophobic coatings were constructed on glass surfaces via one-step aerosol-assisted chemical vapour deposition technique. There are 9 bounce cycles observed on such hierarchically structured surfaces, which exhibited excellent self-cleaning ability.

“…The number of bouncing cycles of water droplet on a superhydrophobic surface depends upon the surface microstructure, surface tension and static contact angle. [31][32][33][34][35][36][37] The replica from 1 min-plating SiNW has the lowest water CA (138 ). For other PDMS replicas that have comparable water CA (around 150 ) and same PFOTS-uorinated process, the key factor that inuences water bouncing behavior is the surface microstructures, that is, the spacings between nanopatterned micropillars.…”

“…In this paper, PMMA particles (10-50 µm) and nanosilica particles (15-50 nm) were used to construct the micro-nano rough structure using a spraying method with PVDF as the matrix. The nano-SiO 2 was prepared using a hydrothermal method [16]. Then, 0.5 g of nano-SiO 2 , 0.5 g of polydimethylsiloxane, 0.05 g of dibutyltin dilaurate, and 50 mL of heptane were placed in a three-necked flask.…”

“…Numerous efforts have been made to inhibit metal corrosion, including organic coatings [1][2][3], inhibitors [4,5], cathodic protection [6] and surface modification [7]. Inspired by lotus leaves, a superhydrophobic surface with a water contact angle greater than 150°and rolling angle smaller than 10°, has attracted great attention over the past decades, because it presents significant potential in the fields of selfcleaning [8,9], corrosion resistance [10][11][12], oil-water separation [13] and energy conservation [14].…”
