Abstract-This paper investigates double-threshold based energy detector for cooperative spectrum sensing mechanisms in cognitive wireless radio networks. We first propose a hybrid double-threshold based energy detector (HDTED) to improve the sensing performance at secondary users (SUs) by exploiting both the local binary/energy decisions and global binary decisions feedback from the fusion centre (FC). Significantly, we derive closed-form expressions and bounds for the probabilities of missed detection and false alarm considering a practical scenario where all channel links suffer from Rayleigh fading and background noise. The derived expressions not only show the improved performance achieved with the HDTED scheme but also enable us to analyse the impacts of the number of the SUs and the fading channels on the cooperative spectrum sensing performance. Furthermore, based on the derived bounds, we propose an optimal SU selection algorithm for forwarding the local decisions to the FC, which helps reduce the number of forwarding bits for a lower-complexity signaling. Finally, numerical results are provided to demonstrate the validity of the analytical findings.

This paper proposes a cooperative spectrum sensing algorithm in a maritime cognitive radio network and evaluates the performance of proposed algorithm. In the proposed algorithm, the secondary ships decide whether to transmit the feedback information or not on the basis of the threshold when the number of available feedback information of the ships is limited. The fusion ship detects whether the channel is available or not on the basis of the feedback information. This paper evaluates the proposed algorithm in terms of the detection probability and the number of secondary ships that are fed back in the maritime cognitive radio network. The simulation results show the proposed algorithm significantly reduces the feedback overhead even though the detection probability is somewhat declined.

Cooperative energy detection (CED) is a key technique to identify the spectrum holes in cognitive radio networks. Previous study on this technique mainly aims at improving the detection accuracy, while paying little attention to the performance of detection time. This paper concentrates on the issue of fast CED, which is achieved by minimizing its detection time subject to the constraints on detection accuracy. Firstly, the prevalent counting rule based CED algorithm is optimized. Taking the special cases of counting rule (AND rule and OR rule), for example, we show that detection time can be minimized by selecting an optimal number of secondary users. Moreover, we prove that OR rule is superior to AND rule in detection time, and thus OR rule based CED is faster than AND rule based CED. Then, a sequential test (ST) based CED algorithm is proposed to exploit the benefit of ST and detect primary user even faster. After analyzing its detection time, we illustrate that ST based CED is able to spend the minimal detection time in satisfying the accuracy constraints by choosing an optimal sample number. Simulation results are provided to verify the effectiveness of both fast algorithms discussed in this paper.
