Efficient modelling and simulation of embedded software multi-tasking using SystemC and OSSS

Abstract: Since the software part in today's designs is increasingly important, the impact of platform decisions with respect to the hardware and the software infrastructure (OS, scheduler, priorities, mapping) has to be explored in early design phases. In this paper, we present an extension of the existing SystemC TM -based OSSS design flow regarding software multi-tasking in system models. The simulation of the OSSS software run-time model supports different scheduling policies, as well as efficient timing annotations,… Show more

“…Just recently, an extension deploying techniques with respect to preemptive scheduling models very similar to the ones presented in this work has been presented in [19]. The "Result Oriented Modelling" collects and consumes consecutive timing annotations while still handling preemptions accurately similar to our "lazy synchronisation" scheme presented in [8].…”

“…In [19] an extension, deploying techniques with respect to preemptive scheduling models, very similar to the ones presented in this work has been presented. The "Result Oriented Modelling" collects and consumes consecutive timing annotations while still handling preemptions accurately, similar to the "lazy synchronisation" scheme presented in [10]. Just recently, an extension towards multi-core architectures has been presented in [16], although inter-task communication has not yet been addressed.…”
