Efficient integration of software defined networking and information-centric networking with CoLoR

Abstract: Information-centric networking (ICN) and software defined networking (SDN) are two novel network paradigms that the networking community is actively investigating. Because of their salient features, there are increasing attempts to integrate ICN and SDN. In this paper, we show how a recently proposed future Internet architecture (called CoLoR) makes it efficient to integrate SDN and ICN. In particular, we show how CoLoR reduces the flow setup delay, the number of flow setup requests, and the number of flow ent… Show more

“…In terms of the 'mutual immersive pattern'', except for the [158] and [166], the researchers all provided detailed technical application background. For example, in [144,147], and [126], the articles focused on 5G networks to solve the corresponding problems by converging SDN and ICN.…”

“…This technique defines forwarding agents-specific rules to route traffic securely. Luo et al [106] propose a layered approach for ICN and SDN integration to reduce flow setup delay, flow setup requests handling, and flow rule installation. They use Color architecture into SDN, devising an SD-Color paradigm for ICN implementation.…”

“…An important feature of SDN is that the logical centralized controller knows all states of network elements, which makes it possible to manage network resources efficiently. Because of this, many researchers have tried to integrate SDN and ICN into a coherent future Internet architecture [53], [54]. In that case, should in-network caching be realized in a cooperative way, or in a distributed manner where network devices make caching decisions independently, as in many existing in-network caching mechanisms?…”
