Efficient I/O for computational grid applications.

Abstract: High-performance computing increasingly occurs on "computational grids" composed of heterogeneous and geographically distributed systems of computers, networks, and storage devices that collectively act as a single "virtual" computer. A key challenge in this environment is to provide efficient access to data distributed across remote data servers. This dissertation explores some of the issues associated with I/O for wide-area distributed computing and describes an I/O system, called Armada, with the following … Show more

“…We include a detailed analysis of graph restructuring in [24]. To summarize, our analysis has two parts: first, we calculate the size of the largest possible tree (based on the number of leaves in the initial tree) and the number of operations used by PARALLELIZELEFT and PARALLELIZERIGHT to generate the tree, then we calculate the number of operations (based on the number of nodes in the largest possible tree) used by RESTRUCTURE, SLIDELEFT, and SLIDERIGHT to decide whether or not to swap series-connected nodes.…”
