Efficient hole-blocking layer-free planar halide perovskite thin-film solar cells

Abstract: Efficient lead halide perovskite solar cells use hole-blocking layers to help collection of photogenerated electrons and to achieve high open-circuit voltages. Here, we report the realization of efficient perovskite solar cells grown directly on fluorine-doped tin oxide-coated substrates without using any hole-blocking layers. With ultraviolet-ozone treatment of the substrates, a planar Au/hole-transporting material/CH 3 NH 3 PbI 3-x Cl x /substrate cell processed by a solution method has achieved a power conv… Show more

“…Perovskite solar cells are not only used as energy conversion devices but can also act as photodetectors [18][19][20][21][22][23][24]. In reports by Lin et al [18], their photodetectors possessed a high detectivity beyond 10 12 Jones and a PCE of more than 12%.…”

“…[ 53 ] Ke et al reported ETL-free cells with a 14.1% PCE by directly forming CH 3 NH 3 PbI 3-x Cl x fi lm on FTO. [ 54 ] They suggested that the key for obtaining effi cient ETL-free cells is to prepare uniform perovskite fi lms with good crystallinity, avoiding shunting paths between HTL and FTO. Some "ETL-free" cells exhibited very low stabilized power output even though decent PCEs were obtained from J-V measurements.…”

“…The dark J-V curves indicate that the device with 2000 rpm TiO 2 layer exhibits a better diode behaviour than the samples with other two kinds of TiO 2 layers. The direct contacts between CH 3 NH 3 PbI 3-X Cl X layer and FTO may be responsible for the poor rectification ability of the TiO 2 -1000 and TiO 2 -3000 cells [5].…”

“…Perovskite solar cells (PSCs) have developed a variety of device structures, since the first report from Kojima et al in 2009 [1], such as mesoporous, meso-superstructure, planar heterojunction, and hole-blocking layer-free structure [2][3][4][5]. The planar heterojunction is considered to be the most competitive construction on account of their simplified fabricating procedure.…”
