Efficient Genomic Prediction of Yield and Dry Matter in Hybrid Potato

Abstract: There is an ongoing endeavor within the potato breeding sector to rapidly adapt potato from a clonal polyploid crop to a diploid hybrid potato crop. While hybrid breeding allows for the efficient generation and selection of parental lines, it also increases breeding program complexity and results in longer breeding cycles. Over the past two decades, genomic prediction has revolutionized hybrid crop breeding through shorter breeding cycles, lower phenotyping costs, and better population improvement, resulting i… Show more

“…Leaf discs from 249 individuals of population BC2(P)-1 were sampled in 96-well plates and were genotyped via SeqSNP™ (LGC Genomics GmbH, Berlin, Germany) [ 46 ]. SNPs were extracted from the SeqSNP™ reads using the method described in Adams et al (2023) [ 47 ], resulting in 2116 SNPs. SNPs that were homozygous alternate between F2-1 and Solyntus were selected.…”

“…(2022) offered fresh insights into various genome-based prediction strategies, emphasizing the role of genotype-environment dynamics, and supporting both linear and kernel-based models for traits assessment. Advancing these concepts, Adams et al. (2023) assessed prediction models within diploid hybrid potato breeding, aiming to enhance genetic improvements across compound traits.…”

“…Subsequent investigations by Ortiz et al (2022) offered fresh insights into genome-based prediction strategies, emphasizing the role of genotype-environment dynamics, and supporting both linear and kernel-based models for traits assessment. Advancing these concepts, Adams et al (2023) assessed prediction models within diploid hybrid potato breeding, aiming to enhance genetic improvements across compound traits. The most recent contribution from Cuevas et al (2022) involved examining both single-trait and multi-trait multi-environment models, underscoring the efficacy of multi-trait approaches in complex trait forecasting.…”
